We’ll meet in the large lay-by near to the the bus shelter and post box, at the cross-roads on the common (Carn Canol).
If you are coming from the Carmarthen direction on the B4306: go up through the village of Crwbin and onto the common (across a cattle grid after the last houses). You will see the bus shelter on your right, and can turn right at the cross roads just after it, and park in a large layby there.
If you are coming from the Pontyberem (Llanelli) direction on the B4306: go through the village of Bancffosfelen and onto the common (across a cattle grid after some houses). You will see the bus shelter on your left, and can turn left at the cross roads just before it, and park in a large lay-by there.
It can be fairly exposed, and can be wet underfoot – its sensible to bring waterproof shoes and a jacket.
They are still FREE – and art MATERIALS are SUPPLIED

Children under 14 must to be accompanied by an adult

Drawing materials of your choice – we suggest dry materials like pens, felt-tip pens, pencils and maybe coloured pencils, crayons, charcoal or pastels.
For our online session this Saturday 11th July 2020 we are going to look at ‘Your Home’ – ‘Your Home Space’ that you have felt safe, secure and happy on during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Think about what your special Home Space is:
- a special spot in the garden
- curled up on the sofa
- sitting at the Kitchen table creating food, art…
- looking out of the lounge, bedroom, kitchen window
- Standing the front door clapping – waving
- another place…
We want you to collect all your art materials that you have been using for the sessions.
If you only have a few materials that you have been using that great… it makes it easier to select what to draw for this week’s session.
We will start a series of mark making exercises (please see examples below) using what you have to hand; using your sketchbooks…
We want this to be part of a visual diary of your experience of Pandemic, being creative in Lockdown.
We are going to be inspired by the work creatives… of Derek Jarman, The Bloomsbury Group and Pierre Bonnard…

On the 27th June 2020 the Gwendraeth Arts Lab delivered its ‘Mapping’ Online session courtesy of Zoom and again wonderful work was produced.
First off we do our warm up: 3 deep breaths, hand claps, finger movements, shoulders, arm and hand movements too warm up and get ourselves sitting comfortably for the next hour and a half.
Then a few quick mark marking exercises:
First off we watch and listened to the sounds of Oxford Street on YouTube – Closing our eyes we drew what we heard, responding to the sounds.
Then we listen to nature sounds on Spotify – listening to sounds of the countryside in the summer (very noisy!!) and again drawing what we hear and responding to the sounds.
Then we asked everyone to think of a journey that they take, one that they might take every day in Lockdown or one that they would really like to take but can’t due to the pandemic lockdown restrictions. Then recalling your memories and imagination of that journey we asked everyone to reproduce it, some people worked together to create one journey – what was produced was amazing and all so unique!
Our Lockdown Journeys…
