Mindful Photography – Light & Shade

This Saturday 20th March 2021 our session is Mindful Photography with Ray Hobbs.

Working with Documentary Photographer Ray Hobbs we will explore ‘Mindful Photography in your home’ looking how to look at your home in a new light…

Materials: your camera, camera phone and you!

For this Mindful Photography workshop, we shall be considering Light & Shade in the home. The brief is to produce a set of five images using any camera or phone you may have.
The objective is to consider how natural and/or artificial light impacts on our home environment.
It may be the passing of light through a glass bottle containing a coloured liquid or the effects of shadow on a surface or how light bends around objects; the choice is yours.
I shall be presenting a short PowerPoint presentation of images I took with a simple compact camera.

You are then invited to email your chosen five images to me via WeTransfer with any comments or poems you may wish to accompany the images. I will prepare a PowerPoint presentation of your images for presentation for Saturday 27th March and following any amendments you may wish to make; I’ll create a blog for you to share.

I look forward to seeing you on Saturday 20th March for the workshop.

Interested in joining us then please email us at gwendraethartslab@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you!

We would like you to join our Gwendraeth Arts Lab Artists on the Burry Port Beach for a sketchbook walk to express your feelings about the Carmarthen Bay Power Generation Plant, which was demolished in 1990. Observing the demolition landscape and considering the extensive natural erosion of the beach and the man-made and natural cliffs, which has exposed fragments of machinery and the original structures.

precious possessions

A lovely reflective session last Saturday, looking at objects that connect us with our memories, with the past, with important people: family heirlooms, a record player and records, books. We started with making some very quick drawings, this time one on top of another and using a bright and contrasting colour.

The group went on to make some fantastic longer pieces of work – you can see some of the paintings and drawings below, a couple are paired with photographs of the precious objects as they were drawn. We used contrasting and bright colour to really explore the feeling of preciousness, and it has made the drawings and paintings sing.

Sketchbook Walks

Another successful sketchbook walk today

15 people braved the weather to participate in another Gwendraeth Arts Lab sketchbook walk  this Saturday 2nd March 2019 at the Burns Farm Shop at Parc y Bocs (who were fab hosts), our first of the year!

Just a few images of the day…
