Our Lockdown journeys…
On the 27th June 2020 the Gwendraeth Arts Lab delivered its ‘Mapping’ Online session courtesy of Zoom and again wonderful work was produced.
First off we do our warm up: 3 deep breaths, hand claps, finger movements, shoulders, arm and hand movements too warm up and get ourselves sitting comfortably for the next hour and a half.
Then a few quick mark marking exercises:
First off we watch and listened to the sounds of Oxford Street on YouTube – Closing our eyes we drew what we heard, responding to the sounds.
Then we listen to nature sounds on Spotify – listening to sounds of the countryside in the summer (very noisy!!) and again drawing what we hear and responding to the sounds.
Then we asked everyone to think of a journey that they take, one that they might take every day in Lockdown or one that they would really like to take but can’t due to the pandemic lockdown restrictions. Then recalling your memories and imagination of that journey we asked everyone to reproduce it, some people worked together to create one journey – what was produced was amazing and all so unique!

Iwan Bala’s lockdown drawings
This is a very quick post, following on from our on-line drawing session on Saturday, mapping our real and imaginary lockdown journeys. I just wanted to give you a link to some very inspiring work by Iwan Bala. He’s an artist working here in Wales, and has made some fabulous drawings during the lockdown. You can see photos of them if you click this link to his page on gallery ten’s website :
